New wine bar a step closer

Saturday 7 September 2019

A new wine bar for the town centre came a step closer last week when a licence was granted for Enoteca Zero in Rankin House.

The district council's licensing sub-committee granted a licence for the sale of alcohol from 10am to midnight Monday to Satrurday, and 10am to 10:30pm on Sundays. The orginal application was for a licence until 12:30am Monday to Thursday and until 1:30am Friday and Saturday, with Sunday hours until midnight..

Planning permission for the venture was granted a year ago following refusal of earlier plans due to fears of anti-social behaviour and noise.

Applicant Ms Tania Cioffi told the committee that the new wine bar was aimed at those who were happy to pay between £18 - £700 for a bottle of wine and that staff would be trained to watch out for groups overordering or who might order too quickly.  She also said that the premises would be happy to join the local pubwatch scheme.

The owners already operate Zeros Italian restaurant in Star Street.

Having considered the views of all parties, the Sub-Committee granted the licence with reduced hours, in line with the Council’s Licensing Policy 2016.
