War Memorial

Post by jasmine98 »

Driving through Great Amwell earlier this week, I was appalled to note the dilapidated state of the war memorial alongside the New River. I have always regarded Great Amwell as a part of Ware so hope that this post will be allowed.

I lived for many years overlooking this memorial and it was always respected and kept in pristine condition, presumably someone is still responsible. It certainly does nothing to enhance this affluent, otherwise pretty village in its present state. Is it in the wrong position, or does no one have the time or interest to care.

strange post, you seem more concerned about it affecting your property value then remaining as a monument to the dead.

I'm afraid you have got it completely wrong, I haven't lived in Great Amwell for many years, it just seems so sad to see it in this state.

Well, at least that is now cleared up, in truth I haven't lived in Great Amwell since 1950. I just hope that someone in Great Amwell reads the post and a clean up operation is carried out.

Ah, thank you, at least something is going to be done, but why should such a simple task as cleaning and renewing the names take until November!

And, to widen this thread, the recently restored war memorial in Ware was dedicated this afternoon in a short ceremony.
