I've Spotted a problem in the town

I follow the Spotted page on FB, last week a question was asked 'Who is everyone voting for?
There were so many comments saying UKIP that UKIP themselves commented on the post, Vote for Adrian Baker (Head of Physics in Stortford apparently, great!)

It stressed me out a little, my 'foreign' wife has seen the post & now feels uncomfortable that so many people in this town might feel this way


Do most of the people in Ware share these views? It didn't seem like a minority in the comments of the post

Well I certainly don't feel that way. I suspect that this may decend into a discussion that needs moderating - I hope not.

Those voicing their opinions on Spotted appear (forgive the generalisation) to be "natural" fodder for UKIP's diet of misinformation and borderline racism, and will therefore generate a lot of noise on such posts. Sadly I think UKIP will get a lot of votes - it is up to those of us who oppose their manifesto to try and get our point of view across. Sadly UKIP are being seen as a protest vote, attracting the disenfranchised.

According to all the surveys UKIP attract support from poorly educated, low wage, older voters - the kind of people who have been left behind by the neo-liberal economic policies of Labour and the Tories which have so increased low wage, precarious employment in Britain. However noisy their fans are on Spotted in Ware, UKIP have consistently performed well below their national average in Ware and East Herts as a whole, and even in what would look like more fertile ground in Broxbourne, hoddesdon and Cheshunt.

My family is also partly foreign in origin, and the xenophobia of UKIP is deeply unpleasant to observe, as is the credulity of its supporters who think the party stands for common people when it is lead and funded by ex-Tory millionaire public schoolboys. They'll fade away, as the BNP and NF did before them and as all protest parties do.

Spotted in Ware is often full of utter rubbish (and often nothing to do with the town) and I unliked it very soon after liking it.

So to explore the views of the small proportion of residents on spotted who are hardly representative of the town as a whole you come and ask on WOL which is also not representative.

Sorry, I wanted to survey people on the high street on my lunch break but couldn't spare the time

The people of WOL seem to be a little bit more informed on what actually goes on in the town, thought this was a better place to ask rather than messaging Spotted the same question

The fact that they are better informed is exactly why WOL are not representative of the town, in my experience most don't have a clue.

I for one will not be voting UKIP, don't want them anywhere near the government, well hope they don't anyway. As far as I'm concerned if you pay your taxes/national insurance you are welcome to work in this country. Scroungers are not required!

To be serious for a moment, I would not expect UKIP to have much success round here, however, I would not be a bit surprised to see the next Govt as a Tory one supported by UKIP.

In my view the LIbDems will cease to exist as a serious party in May even at local level which is a pity given how hard our local ones work for the town. They will unfortunately suffer for the problems of the Westminster party.

I too will most certainly not be voting UKIP.

According to the polling reports on http://ukpollingreport.co.uk/ although UKIP are well ahead of the LibDems they are still pretty low so will not get a significant number of MPs come the next Government. As to forming a coalition, not sure that would be such a good plan as whoever sides with UKIP would be in danger of just as much ridicule.

I really can't see the Hertford and Stortford constituency being anything but 'Tory though.
