Stud Wanted
Stud Wanted
Does anyone know a KC registered Labrador, for my Chocolate Labrador who is in season please?
Re: Stud Wanted
Have you ever bred before or is this just a whim? Breeding dogs is not something to be entertained lightly and really a stud dog should have been researched and sourced way before now.
Re: Stud Wanted
jcb this is not a whim and of course have looked into it, with careful consideration with the assistance from my vet, KC and much sourced knowledge. I had researched my stud but the owner has now failed two arranged meetings thus I am on wol.
Re: Stud Wanted
Are you looking to breed working dogs or simply pets? I know of some good working labs but would need to know more about your bitch and the target owners you have in mind.
Re: Stud Wanted
Have a look at Champdogs.co.uk, if you look for your breed, you will find a list of Stud dogs, each should have clearly listed the required/recommended health tests that the stud dog has completed (Hip Score/DNA testing etc). You may well have to travel to get a decent stud dog and also be prepared to answer questions the stud dog owner has (they will want proof of pedigree/health test results for your bitch). The Book of the Bitch: A Complete Guide to Understanding and Caring for Bitches by J. M. Evans, Kay White is a very useful guide to each stage of dog breeding and puppy rearing.
Re: Stud Wanted
Thank you for replies thus far! My Labrador is a gun dog but I purchased purely as a family pet and that's what I am looking to continue. A good strong pedigree family pet although I am sure with training she would make a Gun Dog and the thought of all that game excites me as a chef!
Re: Stud Wanted
you may find one from the Pet Plan breeders site?
Re: Stud Wanted
Ideally a chocolate Labrador - so disappointed I got let down - no real apology or explanation! Its this weekend or another six months to wait!!!
Re: Stud Wanted
Sorry REG, I put word around but no one wants to breed with a non working lab, especially a chocolate one. Your best bet would be to get in contact with the KC and ask for a list of registered breeders. I am afraid the people I know only want to breed with black labs as they feel they make the best working dogs. Best of luck.
Re: Stud Wanted
Thank you jcb, I understand fully as furthermore the guide dogs would not use chocolate labs either. They really are more ideally suited as soppy family pets, although that being said my dog trained really well under Annette Scally and I could not have wished for a better pet or companion. Looks likely I will miss this season as for being let down - do not want to knee jerk but still hopeful of a stud. What will be will be!
